Oxygen Prescription by Walk with Oximetry

Description: For a patient who is unable to pedal on the stationary bicycle, s/he will perform this alternative test to assess the need for supplemental oxygen.
Test: The patient will walk back and forth down a hallway for six minutes at his/her own pace. The goal of the test is for the patient to cover as much distance as possible. You will be asked to repeat this test twice, with a 20-minute rest period in between. Following another 20-minute rest period, the patient will perform two additional walk tests while breathing supplemental oxygen.
Length of Time: Approximately 2 hours.
Preparation: Eat a regular breakfast/lunch and drink plenty of fluids. Wear loose-fitting clothes (sweats) and comfortable running shoes. No restrictions on medications.
