Oxygen Prescription by Ergometer with Oximetry

Description: To assess the need for supplemental oxygen treatment. If the patient is already breathing supplemental oxygen, this test is used to determine if the current level of oxygen is adequate.
Test: The patient will pedal on a stationary bicycle for as long as s/he can. The patient will pedal for approximately 10 minutes. After a 30-minute rest period the patient will perform a second exercise test breathing added oxygen.
Length of Time: Approximately 2 hours.
Preparation: Eat a regular breakfast/lunch and drink plenty of fluids. No
restrictions on medications. Wear loose-fitting clothes (sweats) and comfortable running shoes.
