Exercise - Bloodless

Description: To monitor lung and heart function while exercising at gradually increasing workloads to a maximal level.
Test: The patient will pedal on a stationary bicycle for as long as s/he can while breathing into a machine. The patient will pedal for approximately 10 minutes. After a 30-minute rest period, the patient will perform a simple shorter exercise on the bicycle. During this test, the patient will be asked to breathe in deeply and then breathe out forcefully through a mouthpiece into a recording device.
Length of Time: Approximately 1.5 hours.
Preparation: Eat a regular breakfast/lunch and drink plenty of fluids. Wear loose-fitting clothes (sweats) and comfortable running shoes. No restrictions on medications.
